Abstract: The objective of the present study was to answer the question, does gamma irradiation of faba bean seeds can reduce N fertilizer requirement?. So, a field experiment with three replicates in split plot design was conducted at the experimental farm of Horticultural Research Station, El-Kanater El-Khiria during (2013/2014). The γ- irradiation doses used for seed treatments were 0, 25 and 50 Gry while N fertilizer levels used were 0, 10, 15 and 20 kg N/fed. The obtained results revealed that: in absence of nitrogen fertilizer (0.0N kg/fed.), irradiation of faba bean seeds with 25 and 50 Gry caused significant increases in all growth parameters measured and biological yield (ton/fed.) of faba bean plants relative to non irradiated seeds. The different levels of N fertilizer used in this experiment caused significant increases in the seed yield and uptake of NPK by seeds of faba bean plants grown from irradiated seeds relative to those grown from irradiated seeds only. Treatment of faba bean seeds with 50 Gry under nitrogen fertilization of 15 kg/fed. gives the highest values of most measured plant parameters, yield attributes as well as its nutritive conetnts.
