Abstract: The present study was carried out on El-Mansouria canal located in the western of Cairo, Egypt. El-Mansouria canal passes through village and many villages dotted along it receiving their drainage water, house wastes and commercial activities. In addition, some samples were taken from and around El-Remal drain (which collect water at the outlet of Abu Rawash station) passes under the middle of El Mansouria canal. Canal water & sediment, soil and plant samples were collected during twelve months from January 2010 to December 2010. Ten sampling locations along El-Mansouria canal were selected. The collected data from field work survey were analyzed for interpretation the facts and causes of pollution of the selected locations. Inorganic pollutants as heavy metals and organic pollutants as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbone (PAHs) and total phenol were analyzed in all locations. Data revealed that all metal concentrations in water and soil samples were still below the critical limits. The heavy metal concentrations in sediment during wet season were higher than in dry season. The highest levels of Fe, Zn, Cu, Co and Cr were shown in the cauliflower compared with the other collected plants. Also, during the study period, the PAHs and phenol showed maximum values during summer season (June -September). Both total PAHs and phenol were detected during the dry season in higher concentration values than those found in months (January, February and March). The highest values of total phenol and PAHs in water samples were recorded in summer season; the values reached 5.06 and 12.35 µg/l, respectively. The results showed progressive increase in phenol contents in all soil samples which collected during dry season from different location compared with wet season. The highest level reached 1030 µg/kg during dry season, while, the lowest level reached 78.3 µg/kg during wet season. The average content of PAHs for sediment and plant was the same trends approximately similar.
