Abstract: A field experiments was carried out in a split-split plot design at Mallawi Agric., Res., Station, Minia Governorate, Egypt, during 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 seasons to study the effect of different sources, levels of nitrogen fertilizer and inoculation with mixed of Azospirillim brasilense and bacillus polymyxa on 1000- grain weight (g), yield, yield quality contents (%) in grain and straw and N uptake of wheat grains and straw. Two sources of nitrogen,i.e., ammonium nitrate and urea, and three levels of nitrogen,i.,e., 25,50 and 75 kg N/fed and inoculation treatments (uninoculated and inoculated grains of wheat by mixed strains of Azospirillim brasilense and bacillus polymyxa).
Results indicated that the increase in N fertilizer level from 25 to 50 and 75 kg N/fed resulted in a significant increases in 1000- grain weight, grain and straw yields, protein content of grain, N% in grain and straw and nitrogen uptake by grain and straw in both seasons. Inoculation of wheat plants with mixed strains of Azospirillim brasilense and bacillus polymyxa resulted in a significant increase in all studied parameters (1000- grain weight, grain and straw yields, protein content of grain, N content in both grain and straw (%) and nitrogen uptake by grain and straw in both seasons. All studied parameters increased significantly due to both applied nitrogen sources, except for straw yield in second season, while, 1000- grains weight and N% in straw was not significant in both tested seasons. The effect of interaction between the three studied factors on al studied parameters was not significant except for protein content of grain, N% in grain and nitrogen uptake by grain, which was significant in the second season only. While, the highest values of studied parameters were obtained when wheat plants were fertilized with urea applied at the rate of 75 kg N/fed combined with mixed strains of Azospirillim brasilense and bacillus polymyxa inoculation. On the other hand, wheat plants fertilized with 50 kg N as urea in combination with inoculation with mixed strains of Azospirillim brasilense and bacillus polymyxa had recorded the highest values due to all tested parameters compared to uninoculated control. Finally it could be indicated that wheat plants were fertilized with urea application at the rate 50 kg N/fed along with inoculation wheat grains with mixed strains of Azospirillim brasilense and Bacillus polymyxa is the recommended treatment for maximizing wheat yield and net return as well as reducing the amount of mineral nitrogen fertilizer and in turn reducing the soil pollution.
